Tom Sykes' move to Stobart Honda was widely rumoured but never confirmed until the team launch. The Supersport 600 runner up was under strict orders to keep the deal quiet, and he did! Sykes was linked to several rides in European Superstock as well as World Supersport but he opted for the Stobart ride in 2007. Tom spoke to Crash.net.

When did the deal come about?

It came about a fair while ago to be honest. It was that long ago I can't actually remember, I was under strict orders to keep it quiet so that was what I did. I wasn't going to go shouting about it. I'm really excited about it.

How does it feel to have somebody like Shane Byrne as your team-mate?

It will be good. Shakey has a lot of experience in a lot of different classes and hopefully I'll be tapping into that if I need some help, and hopefully he will give me some answers. I'm looking forward to the whole event.

Have you much Superbike experience?

I've ridden a Superbike a couple of times before with my old team TAS Suzuki and also previously with the Rizla Suzuki for a one off ride.

How did the Superbike compare with the Supersport bike?

There isn't loads of difference down the straights, but the riding style is different. I'm sure I'll be able to adapt to it.

I believe you are off testing soon, tell me about that?

We are off to Spain for a few days on track and I'm really looking forward to doing it. Obviously it is the first time I've been out testing in a year before the season and I'm really looking forward to it. Three days solid on track, just to get a base setting on the bike and decide which direction we need to go with a few things. I'm also looking forward to working with the whole Stobart Honda team, I've seen all the lads and they are a nice bunch and we are going to get on good. Lets bring it on I'm really looking forward to it.

Are you excited about taking the big step up to Superbike?

I've wanted to step up to Superbikes for a couple of years now and never had the opportunity. Now it has come with a fantastic team, I've got a brilliant package, it is down to me now to get some good results.

There were some rumours stating that you were moving to Europe, is that something you would consider in the longer term?

Yeah I'd definitely consider going to Europe on a Superbike. I did have options to go on Supersport and Superstock but nothing on Superbike. I f something like that came along I'd take a look .

Apart from testing what are you plans for the off season?

Just keep fit, maintain a good fitness level for next year, with having and extra race and longer sessions. Apart from that, no just think I'll chill out a bit, train, go to a few places see a few things, and prepare for the on coming season. Get myself up to one hundred and ten percent ready for the battle.
