After a break for Christmas festivities, the SBK and SS teams are back on track for the first tests of 2007, from the 13th to the 15th of January at the Australian Phillip Island Circuit, which will host a race of the championship next March.

This will be an important outing as the Phillip Island track is always considered a reliable bench test for the potential competitiveness of motorcycles. There will be a lot of interest in the improvements in the times recorded by the five marques competing in the SBK world (Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha) thanks to the use of improved tyres from Pirelli, which gave such good results in Qatar compared to Valencia.

The tests will also see a duel between the main contenders of the coming championship, lead by world champion Troy Bayliss who will have to fight off the attacks of quality riders like Max Biaggi, Troy Corser, James Toseland, Noriyuki Haga and not forgetting the ever-charging Yukio Kagayama, the regenerated Lorenzo Lanzi and the other Italian Roberto Rolfo.

No less interesting will be Supersport World Championship, where we will once again see on track the Honda Ten Kate paring of Sebastien Charpentier and Kenan Sofuoglu. The favourites of the season will not only be up against the historical strength of the Yamaha World Supersport team of Kevin Curtain and Broc Parkes but also Gianluca Nannelli who hopes to lift his Ducati to the level of the competition. A significant improvement is also expected from the new Kawasakis, ridden by Fabien Foret and Pere Riba.
