The Valencia track has been chosen by four Italian squads for a three day test ahead of the opening of the coming season at Losail in Qatar next month.

Dean Ellison has made his debut on the Team Pedercini Ducati 999. It was the first time out for the English rider on the Borgo Panigale twin, a challenge made more difficult by the combination of a lack of grip and poor weather.

The DFXtreme Team were out in force in Spain with their latest evolution of the Honda CBR1000RR. It was a bad day for Michel Fabrizio, the talented Roman crashed in the morning, badly damaging the right foot which he had already injured in testing before Christmas. He was taken to hospital in Valencia for x-rays and will not be able to continue with the test sessions.

Steve Martin was concentrating on testing new forks and the latest front suspension from Ohlins. The Australian recorded 38 laps with a best time of 1:38.5 comparing well with his team mate’s 1:38.7 on a 2006 machine.

Alessandro Polita made his official Superbike debut, riding the same Suzuki GSX-R1000 K6 that took him to the Superstock1000 world championship and finishing second fastest. His best lap was 1:38.3 although he was looking more for a set-up which gave a good feel than an absolute best lap time.

Massimo Roccoli of Team Yamaha Italia took it easy on the first day, riding with extreme caution. Michele Pirro was surprised that the new Superstock R1 was recording the same lap times as expert Claudio Corti, with both riders in the 1:39.4s. The bike was virtually standard, being prepared at the last minute before arriving at the circuit.
