After two difficult seasons with satellite spec machinery and Dunlop tyres, Pramac d'Antin team principal Luis d'Antin is expecting to challenge for podiums in 2007 after a strong opening test at Sepang.

Former 500cc, MotoGP and WSBK race winner Alex Barros set tongue wagging with the fourth fastest day two time at the test - on the team's new Bridgestone shod Desmosedici GP7 - before slipping to 12th on the third and final day. However, unlike most of his rivals, the Brazilian remained on race tyres and was still within 1.7secs of the top.

"Today has well gone, we have used only the Bridgestone race tyres," confirmed Alex. "We have worked on the rear and improved the set-up, we are in a good situation to go on. I'm very satisfied after this third day and I felt very comfortable with the bike. I'm confident that in the next test we will improve even further."

Team-mate Alex Hofmann was still struggling with a stomach illness, and left the test one place behind Barros even with the aid of a qualifying tyre, but d'Antin had seen enough to be optimistic for the season ahead.

"This test were very important for our team because have showed that we can work well and in the right determination," began the Spaniard. "The two last years have been very difficult from the point of view of results and the expectation for this season are to achieve important results, and to challenge for podium positions.

Behind this good start to the season is Ducati, a special company, different from the others. I would like to thank Ducati for their big technical and human effort. Our aim is to do well and to give maximum support to the Borgo Panigale company."
