Spaniard Gregorio Lavilla took a superb double win at Brands Hatch to get his season off to the perfect start with a mighty fifty points haul for his Airwaves Ducati team.

Second place in the hard fourth race went to HM Plant Honda's Johnny Rea, and next to him in third place was Leon Camier on the Bike Animal Honda. Camier's debut has been ideal with a front row start and two podium finishes.

Lavilla wasn't risking getting boxed in at the start of race two and he got the hole shot while his team-mate Leon Haslam battled with Rizla Suzuki's Chris Walker. Haslam then grabbed second place from Camier at Westfields.

Tommy Hill's weekend went from bad to worse when he was forced to retire on the first lap with a technical problem. As Lavilla was steadily extending his lead, Walker was doing a good job of holding up the chasing pack.

Haslam tried to take Walker but ran wide and allowed Camier to slip by and start chasing Walker. Camier was trying some interesting moves including trying to go round the outside of Walker at Clearways!

By lap eight, Lavilla had a 6.846secs lead while everyone else was desperate to get Walker. Camier passed him at Druids but ran wide, he tried again at Graham Hill bend and made it stick but the infighting allowed Ryuichi Kiyonari and Shane Byrne to get in on the action. Kiyo tried to nab Camier but he fended him off through Surtees. Rea was also on a charge and got the better of Byrne.

At the sharp end it was now Lavilla from Camier, with Kiyo third and Walker fourth. Rea was on the move and forced Walker wide at Paddock Hill shoving him back down the order.

Unfortunately on lap fourteen, Malcolm Ashely had a big high side and brought out the Safety Car. At this point Lavilla had 10.644secs between him and second place so he was furious when the pace was slowed due to the crash.

Due to the Safety Car being deployed the race was extended by a further three laps. On the rolling restart it was Kiyo that suffered the most being picked off by Rea and eventually slipping back to eleventh. Haslam and Byrne continued to battle through Druids but later on the same lap he ran into the gravel however he was able to rejoin.

Rea managed to out manoeuvre Camier just before Clearways, putting himself into second place. The rolling restart also benefited Tom Sykes, Karl Harris and Michael Rutter as they secured fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

In lap twenty one with two laps to go Sean Emmet's bike blew its engine on the Brabham straight, this brought out the red flag and the race was declared.
