Fella, you'll love it. Its scarey as feck but such a buzz. Don't put too much pressure on yourself though. Unless you're lucky and gifted, you will finish very near the back, (my first race i was lapped and second last) and everyone else will feel much faster than you. BUT, most of the grid in front of you have been in that exact same position. You will get better, you will move up the grid, you may sneak a trophy over the years. Try and remember the grin you will have on your face when you get back in after race 1, it will be HUGE. Enjoy the occassion, racing is the way to go. Give up road riding and put all your time, energy and lots of your cash into racing.
Post up your race number and bike, I may pop down if the waether is ok so i'll see how you are doing

Yep, first race is a bowel clencher! Then so is the second, third...............!
Always felt nervous/excited about race starts, raced moto-x in middle east and raced F600 with New Era and its always the same, a fantastic buzz!!!!!!! Thats why we do it, everyone should have a go at racing, there is NOTHING like it!
Good luck with your first race matey, my advice......concentrate on YOUR riding and lines, do not try to get out front at all costs coz a) you wont b) staying on the rubbery bits is far more important than anything else and c)'you arent going fast enough if you dont crash'......pish, how can you learn to ride fast by leaning on the tyre wall, or worse from the medical center?

Agree with Swen about that the first race grin, you'll be bouncing, its great!
Also with the above, you will spend lots of cash, thats why Im poor!
Not so sure about givnig up road riding, (maybe to cover the expense whilst doing it) we all have to return to the road at some stage............Im gonna go an cry somewhere now coz Im too old and beat up to race anymore :( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sums it up perfectly, I get nervous before every race - butterflies in my stomach, knees like jelly, but when those lights go out, it's one big hit of adrenaline and go, go go...no matter how many times you race, the feeling is the same.

I can remember my first race ever, it's a special one (I came last...Auto 66 Club on the RGV, Caraby) but the thrill you will never forget. Just enjoy it, don't try and beat the leaders as others have said, they're more then likely vetrans at it. And watch and learn, look at what others do and see if it works for you - you'll learn lots of dirty little ticks a you get more an or races under your belt.

I had my first race at Brands the other week mate, spent all week going over all the rules and will I conform to scrutineering etc will I be any good blah blah blah, was shitting myself right up to the saturday morning, then it all just sort of calmed down and I just accepted that what happens happens . The buzz you get off it though is unbelievable and I cant wait for my next go :D
Just remember to stay as calm and relaxed as you can, good luck and most importantly have fun
