250GP: China Results and Round up

Jorge Lorenzo came from behind to grab his third victory of the season in commanding fashion in the 250cc Chinese Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old world champion dropped to sixth by the end of the first lap on his Fortuna Aprilia but carved his way back through the field to grab the lead on lap six and go on to win convincingly by 3.904 seconds.

Lorenzo: “This is fantastic for us. Perfect race, not at beginning coz I struggled and did a mistake, but after it was perfect with very good, fast pace. It was impossible for it to be much better.”

It was front-row qualifier Mika Kallio who charged into the lead at the start on his KTM from Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso, but the world champion left his braking too late at the hairpin and slid wide, dropping four places.

But he quickly made it by Julian Simon's Repsol Honda, Hector Barbera's Toth Aprilia and Kallio to slot into third and begin pressuring Dovizioso and Alex de Angelis, whom he duly despatched with the greatest of ease on lap six when the Italian ran wide himself at the same place.

After that it was a case of running and hiding for Lorenzo, whose win extended his championship lead over Dovizioso to 27 points.

The Team Scot Honda rider edged away from de Angelis but soon had his hands full of the San Marinese competitor's Aspar Aprilia team-mate Alvaro Bautista, who had dropped outside the top ten at the start but was charging back through the field.

Bautista passed Dovizioso for second at the hairpin on the penultimate lap but was re-passed in the twisty section on the final tour. The battle was settled when the pair banged fairings on the last time around with the reigning 125cc world champion emerging on top.

De Angelis was fourth with Kallio re-passing Barbera for fifth on the final lap for his best career finish. Julian Simon was seventh on his Repsol Honda with Thomas Luthi's Caffe Latte Aprilia a distant eighth.

The top ten was completed by Hiroshi Aoyama's KTM and Fabrizio Lai's Campetella Aprilia, with both benefiting from separate crashes that eliminated Shuhei Aoyama's Repsol Honda and Marco Simoncelli's Gilera in the second half of the race.
