125 GP: China Results and Round up

Lukas Pesek finally took his maiden 125cc world championship win after a brilliant ride in the Chinese Grand Prix.

The 21-year-old Seedorf Derbi rider with two laps left and held off a challenge from Spaniard Hector Faubel on the final lap to take the first victory for a Czech rider by 0.187 seconds and a two-point championship lead in what was his 62nd race.

Pesek said: “It's a really special moment for me because it's my first world championship [race] win and it's a beautiful moment for me, my father, my friends and the Czech Republic because it's something special that I have done now.”

Spanish teenager Esteve Rabat finished on the podium for the first time in third and the Repsol Honda rider even looked like he could win it in the closing stages, but in the end had to play second fiddle to the superior straightline speed of Pesek's Derbi and Faubel's Aspar Aprilia.

Former championship leader Gabor Talmacsi finished fourth on his Aspar Aprilia on his 100th 125cc grand prix. That result means that he, Pesek and Faubel are separated by just four points in the title race with the Czech on top.

Simone Corsi's Skilled Aprilia and Sergio Gadea's Aspar Aprilia were both lying inside the top three with two laps to go, but got shoved backwards to fifth and sixth in what was a physical encounter in the front fight.

Austrian Michael Ranseder hung onto the lead pack all race, although he never made it higher than fifth at any stage. The Ajo Derbi rider took seventh at the chequered flag, the best result of his career, and Britain's Bradley Smith equalled his after joining the pack with three laps to go on his way to eighth.

Pole-sitter Mattia Pasini led for the opening half of the race but was another to drop back in the late stages and finish tenth – his first points finish of the season – on his Polaris World Aprila – as he was passed by Pol Espargaro on the final lap.

But at least he fared better than the KTM team who had already seen Randy Krummenacher and Steve Bonsey crash and then watched as Tomoyoshi Koyama retired from the lead group on the final lap when his bike failed.

Britain's Danny Webb was 23rd on his De Graaf Honda
