BSS: Pole to victory for Hobbs.

Dennis Hobbs on his Padgetts Honda turned pole position into a victory at Oulton Park in the fourth round of the British Supersport championship. Relentless Suzuki by TAS team-mates Ian Lowry and Michael Laverty put up strong fights, but Hobbs was just out of reach.

It was Laverty who reached Old Hall corner first, with Hobbs, Stuart Easton, Billy McConnell and Guy Sanders for close company. Things went downhill for Easton on lap 3 when his Kawasaki took a detour at the chicane, seeing him lose ten places.

Meanwhile, Laverty had broken away, with Hobbs chasing and McConnell, Sanders and Lowry in a heated battle for third spot. McConnell went from third to fifth in just a few seconds as his rivals pulled daring moves at Hizzy's chicane and Knickerbrook.

Sanders was clearly pushing hard, making a mistake at the chicane on lap six, allowing McConnell to reclaim fourth spot. Hobbs, on the other hand, had found his form, snatching the lead from Laverty at Lodge.

McConnell had re-caught Lowry and was all set to make a sweeping move underneath him at Druids, but unfortunately his bravery did not pay off as he lost the front and slid into the gravel, much to his evident frustration.

Suddenly, Lowry was like a beast unleashed and chased down the leading duo in just three laps, making a breathtaking move on team-mate Laverty for second place at Shell.

Lowry pushed hard in the closing stages, kissing the white line as he tried to catch Hobbs, but it was too late, and Hobbs claimed his second victory in a row, closing the gap on Laverty for the championship lead.

Sanders held onto a lonely fourth place, his personal best, and was followed home by John McGuinness and Tom Grant in very close succession, ahead of Sam Owens and Paul Young. Jamie Robinson finished ninth, and Easton recovered to complete the top ten.

Ian Hutchinson was forced to retire on lap six after a heavy crash yesterday left him with painful shoulder injuries, and Martin Jessopp's luck ran out on lap eleven when he was stopped due to smoke seeping from the rear of his machine.
