I've just my K5 750 gixer and am planning the first track day - need some advice on what kit I need...

Should I buy track fairings? If so, anyone know a good make? Or even better, anyone selling any?

Should I be fitting other crash protection?

Should I get track day insurance?

Don't want to scrape my new bike out on the tarmac - advice appreciated....

Then don't take it . . Race fairings only save the plastics if you go down

they don't save exhaust, rearsets, levers, bar ends ,swingarm, forks If your that botherd about wrecking your bike don't do it or get a trackbike

Get R&G bungs and fit em

I have now done 4 trackdays all uneventful, go out and take it steady. U dont get a prize for binin it or best crash. Most companies will offer you free instruction.

Remeber to warm u tyres properly, drink plenty of fluids and when u feel tired take a break.

You should be fine, start in novices, go out with the intention of having fun and getting the bike home in one bit.

If youre really bothered about it u can hire bikes but not cheap and neither is track day insurance.

get a set of crash bungs for defo. r & g are good but recloud put me on to some that are exactly the same but without the name on for 29 pounds on ebay.

when you do go as already said warm your tryes up for the first couple of laps and just take it steady. go at your own pace and not the pace you think you should go because you are on a track. once you get over the nevers and settle down you will get faster anyway.

buy a cheap track bike and thrash the crap out of it -> more fun that way! (works for me!!)

add up how much fairings, spare tank, bungs etc etc then look at track only 600s etc. the worry-free factor is priceless IMHO :D

if you must take your pride and joy on then simply dont crash it :)

There is always a chance that you'll come off/get knocked off. Shit happens, but hey, its the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

You can take sensible precautions with R & G bungs everywhere and a can proteector or you can go for race fibreglass, cheap secondhand tank etc etc.

I've been to Rockingham today and I bet the guy who lowsided his brand new ZX10 and trashed the plastics wished he had put some crash bungs on it.

got to agree with banoffee get a track bike you'll have so much more fun. You can pick one up pretty cheep then you got no worries about binning your p&j or someone else taking you out (rare on trackdays but it happen's)
If you must play on yer road bike get as much crash protectionas you can just in case.

I only have the one bike, and done about a dozen track days without incident.
Agree with all said above, R&G's are a must.
Track fairings are great to have, got mine from hot bike bits. But would recomend race products fairings!!
Ebay always good for a look, got spare tank for £30.
Drink lots of water, warm tyres up properly, nut most of all have fun!!!
