View Full Version : Which Tracks Would I Be Welcome?

Thinking of doing my first track day, and just checked out my "local" circuit (Castle Combe) to find they list my bike (750K6) as a "banned" bike as it breaks their 105dB rule even with the standard can (1/2m away at 3/4revs).
Looked around on the web at a few other tracks and found they seem to have 105dB limits too.
So, just wondering at which tracks in this country my bike would be welcome?
Any 600/750K6 owners been turned away from a track? If so, which tracks?!

As far as I'm aware Castle Combe is the only one that bans standard cans and its probably worth going down there one day and getting your bike noise tested as they say they 'might' ban them.
I've got a yoshi can on my K6 600 and it measured 103dB at a noise test at Brands Hatch and the yoshi is a lot louder than the standard one too. I would expect to be ok at most track days although I can't do evening sessions as they are limited to 102 dB.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge will come along soon but there are different noise tests I think? For insance some tracks measure the noise down the main stretch which is a bit more strict than the one I had at Brands where they just checked the bikes at the beginning of the day and slapped a sticker on the front of the bike when it passed.

You'll be alright at Anglesey, Silverstone, Mallory and Croft. Oulton noise test and you should be alright there too (I passed with a full race Akra on my 1K2).
Dave
what about gettting a db killer for you can ??
Donington and Silverstone aren't too much of a trek for a proper circuit
Think the only thing which will be allowed a Castle Combe soon will be electric mobility cars!
I'm ready to go!!!

My 750K4 system has a akrapovic stubby and with no baffles measured 103db at Oulton. Can't believe your'e gonna be over 105db as there were Ducati's Oulton that were making peoples ears bleed on warm-up that passed ok.
its the way castle combe measure bikes, ie not in the standard acu way- they almost climb inside the end can!!. Although to be fair, the staff there were very helpful when i went earlier this year. Pretty much most other track days you should be ok with a standard can, the only douti woul say would be donington on a 98db day.

Interesting that so many people are under 105dB with a race-can.
According the Castle Combe, in their experience the following are bikes that may not pass their 105dB limit:
GSXR 600 K6
GSXR 750 K6 & K7
GSXR1000K6
Yamaha R6 – 2006 model
Think I'll arrange a trip up their and get my bike measured.
Ta for the suggestions/advice
my k5 750 with full Ti Akrapovic system was 100db dead on a recent track evening at Snetterton

My 1000K3 has a full yoshi system. with carbon tri-oval can and measured 103db at Oulton a few weeks back..
No way a standard can will fail a noise test at any other circuit.

stay clear of castle coombe, if they dont want your bike, or your business stay well away.
your bike will pass everywhere else with the stock can.
castle coombs is crap anyway, compared to the likes of oulton and donington ec

All depends on distance and direction measured from the can... no doubt castle coombe measure 4inches away and directly behind it

still standard can should be fine on 98db day. only peeps i have seen pulled off are those that ignored organisers pleas to get db killer (£25 fitted). think castle combe deserve to get boycotted for that. guess it is their locals want to protect the pretty environment

look people, castle coombe measure their noise test differently to everyone else.
so whether your system makes 103 or 99 or 110 at another track makes not a jot of difference to them. they noise test close to the can, and dont like so called noisy bikes, so do yourself a favour, dont bother going there and get yourself to a proper track where they will take a sensible decison on noise and go and enjoy yourself.
