125GP Donington Results and Round up
British GP - Mattia Pasini finally ended his luckless run with a commanding victory in the 125cc British Grand Prix at Donington Park.
Coming into the race the 21-year-old Italian had taken five pole positions this year but never won due to a host of mechanical problems.
But neither he nor his Polaris World Aprilia missed a beat on his way to a 3.252 second win from Tomoyoshi Koyama's KTM and Hector Faubel's Aspar Aprilia.
"Fantastic," said Pasini. "After the problems we've had this year it feels special to have won here today."
Pasini became embroiled in a nine-bike battle for the lead for the opening half of the race with the Aspar bikes of Faubel, Sergio Gadea and Gabor Talmacsi, Koyama, Raffaele de Rosa on a Multimedia Aprilia and Simone Corsi on a Skilled Racing-run version.
Corsi, the only front-runner to start the race on intermediate tyres, was quick in the early stages before the track was totally dry, but began to fall backwards as the race reached half distance.
It was Pasini who struck first, hitting the front for good on ten and pulling away to the fifth win of his career.
Koyama and Faubel battled fiercly for second with the Japanese rider claiming an advantage by the end. But Faubel did not mind too much as his third place gave him a three-point championship lead over team-mate Talmacsi, who dropped out at three-quarters distance with engine problems.
Corsi got himself into trouble when de Rosa clipped him at the entrance to Fogarty's Esses, sending both across the gravel.
But the pack was truly split two corners later when Corsi fell on his own and Esteve Rabat and Randy Krummenacher took each other down in sympathy.
Rabat's British team-mate Bradley Smith picked his way through the melee and latched onto the tail of Mike di Meglio's Scot Honda.
Gadea finished fourth, passing Joan Olive's Polaris World Aprilia on the final lap. Di Meglio claimed sixth ahead of Smith and de Rosa while the top ten was completed by Pablo Nieto's Blusens Aprilia and Corsi.
British wildcard racer Luke Jones was 22nd on his KGD Honda, ahead of regular racer Danny Webb, who was 25th for De Graaf Honda.
Nikki Coates, Robbie Stewart and Tom Hayward were 27th, 28th and 30th but Kev Coghlan retired with mechanical problems on lap 15.
