can someone please explain to me how the ACU licence works and what it does?

since i got me a new job, i can go for my bigger bike licence, but with the ACU i dont know what it is - as far as i know it allows you to go on track days.

how much is it?
what is it?
advantages?
disadvantages?

oh and is there any racing schools - training and that?

ACU license is for racing matey. You need to complete a small test to acquire your license and then join a club to participate. IF YOUR NOT GOING TO RACE, DONT BOTHER.

Ok, prices you'll find on the ACU (http://http://www.acu.org.uk/) web site, as said it's basicaly a licence to race or compete in the UK, you'll start as a novice licence holder and depending on your results you'll be able to upgrade to clubman, national status.
As far as I know theres no disadvantage to having one (other than the hole thats appeared in your pocket ) advantages are that you get discounts on things like oils n lids etc, you get to do things like test days and can attend trackdays without having a full road licence and obviously you can go and spank all your money on going racing

As for schools theres the Ron Hasslam Race school (http://http://www.haslamraceschool.com/), Mick Boddice (http://http://www.boddicedarleytraining.co.uk/) also does one and then theres the Californian superbike school (http://http://www.superbikeschool.co.uk/) all of which are recommended although I've never attende any of them

just a note mate, like these guys said the ACU license is for racing and ACU practice days only. For Trackdays you will still need a full bike license

you can do trackdays without a full licence... as long as you have an ACU licence.. depending on the TD organiser
