View Full Version : Tyres going off?
Would a front tyre go 'off' after 2 trackdays due to a limit in the number of heat cycles it can stand?
My front tyre seems to have gone a bit hard/brittle and it isn't that grippy anymore..I kno a few gj's have said the same thing since our trackday at Brands last month?
Yep... mine seem to get warm now but lack the tackyness, felt like riding on marbles the other night, esp on slow turns like turning into my road

 mr B
if u dont feel right on them then dont ride on them
gotta have confidence in the bike and tyres to help u have confidence on it

what tyres are they, how old are they, how much wear have they had prior to the TD?
Yeah we've all said it...I was wondering if this would also happen to a more track orientated tyre too?
ssshh don't mention BT14's

matt uses his old road tyres on track,,, he uses them till nothing left ,,,,, id change them if yer not happy with them
I suspect a lot of it could well be in your head - but if you are less than 100% happy with 'em, then change 'em.
Even thinking they are not right can be enough to bring you off if you are not riding well
I've been riding around on Scottys ex-track pirellis for a few weeks now and they are fine - absolutely loads of grip!

Well Tweek, Mr. B, me and Wookie all seem to be suffering? I thought my front was going flat the other night even tho it wasnt..the more I rode it the worse it felt...Tweek says she feels like she's on marbles and unfortunately Mr. B seems to have suffered the worst...

maybe this just proves that matt rides on the road like he does on the track (wait till he gets home!) as he dont seem to ever complain about his tyres after tracking his road bike. but then his mad so wot more can i say

You may be misunderstanding my meaning.
I am not implying that tyres will not go off - what I was attempting to say was that even just THINKING they may be off - can be enough to cause you problems.
No, I wasnt disputing what u said...I kno what you mean and do agree :)
i only ride on used track tyres and have never had a problem

No shouldnt do my front done three track days and still fine but on the road it feels a bit hard but you dont get as much heat into them road riding:gazzer:
But i would say if you are not happy change it

maybe there was a contaminant at the track !
heat cycles and all that shite is just bollocks that racers need to worry about, road riding it won't affect
don't mention BT14's
Nuff said.
Scottys ex-track pirellis
That magic word, Pirelli. :D:D:D

100% agree.
If you don't think you've got the right tools to do the job your only gonna mess with your confidence.
I use all my track tyres on the road when there to far gone for the track, and have no problems with them at all and more than enough grip for the road, but, I did make the mistake on my first track day of not adjusting my tyre pressures which over heated them and made them rock hard of which I didn't find out until I was picking myself off the floor after loosing the back end on a round about.
Lesson learned the hard way.
So, back to my point :D, did you drop your tyre pressure for Brands?
i was gonna say, maybe cause ulot are on BT shitters & maybe there just....SHIT :D
stu, what was your front tyre when u went offroading? still a BT or was it a new 1 & was it same 1 u used on track
but im sure u & tweek both still av them WHACK tyres so i dont fink there made to be pushed, etc
LOL yeah I dropped the pressures, but only after the 2nd session...
As for WHACK tyres lol ...they are well and truly consigned to the garbage bin :D and now back with Pirelli's...mmmm Corsa goodness :D

+1
My front supercorsa was purchased as a part worn off GSXRLAD for the Cadwell day back in April, Its done Cadwell and Donington and whatever it had done before I got it (Brands I think). Aswell as countless amounts of road mileage.
The rear was purchased new at Cadwell and has also done Donington and all the road mileage.
Apart from the rear squaring a little now I have suffered no noticeable degradation of grip.
That said I guess if its playing on your mind then change 'em.

well i use the same tyres on road and track .. you will never get the tyres as hot on the road as on a track..i know scotty hates the BTs but i did use them i must admit and yer never had a problem with them on the road but on the track by the end off a track day rear was shot to death and did over cook and go off ..just use scrubbed metz rennsport .. and pirelli dragon slicks ..."and they do grip"
just matts input
LOL yeah I dropped the pressures, but only after the 2nd session...
What group were you in?

mate im ill lost da plot lol ... them tyres playing up? it was warm that day admit ..was loads better 34/34 ....thinking back there wasnt any cold tearing
Inters?
I don't know how quick you are, but if it was a warm day and you were on one, and running too higher pressures, it's possible to over heat the tyres in less the 15 mins, which could be what's made them feel wooden running at colder road going temps.
IMO, bin em.
Have done, got lovely Corsa III's now...best remember to do the tyres first thing and not arrive late! (Thanks to Wookie ;) )
