I am no trackday veteran by any stretch of the imagination, but I do like a momento of the day in the form of a photograph.
There are a couple of guys on here who do fantastic photos (Wookey & trackdayphotographer) but these guys do it as a hobby and can't always attend the trackdays.
I must say that the No Limits official photographer does a sterling job and appears to cover most of the days. His pictures are of a very high quality but with that come what I believe are very high prices.
I have done 3 No Limits days this year and have spent nearly £50 on pics from one day at Cadwell. (£30 for the DVD of pictures of me and £18 for an A3 print)
By the time I do the same for Donington and Brands, I've spent the best part of £150.
My question therefore is:
Has anyone approached Pete Wileman to attempt to get a GJ discount?
Is it worth a try or what?
I'll ask him if it hasn't been done already.
BTW his photos can be seen at:

I'll PM Tink a link to this thread.
You never know.
Even a deal like by two lots of pics and get the 3rd lot free for example.
I think the prices are high especially as it's all digital now. There are some good photographers on here I have seen their posts - might want to get them involved maybe...
I ordered some they were very good but at £5 each sent by email where is the expense? No costs except he had to take the photo, so his time and its his living....I have a good digital camera - the only expense after purchasing equipment is the electricity used charging batteries. I think if they were priced at £1 or £2 hundreds of more riders would buy them making a better profit...I didnt see many ordering them at the circuit...
BTW if you have the photos and want to print them they require interpolating....they will usually be between 5-10mb in size after sorting them for printing they will be upwards of 40mb. It only requires a few alterations to the photo and it transforms the Quality.
Its a bit off topic but if anyone needs to know how - pm me for info its not complex or hard anyone on here could do it - or I will post a 'How To' The results from what is a pretty good photo usually turn into an awesome print....as long as the printer is a photo printer which most are now....

He's got overheads as well not just his time - liability insurance, fuel to get there and get back, track fee (think someone said he paid £100 to be able to take pictures at donny) then you've got his time at the track and away from the track going through every single photo then uploading/printing and e-mailing the ones he sold.
Its worth asking him if you gonna see him mate failing that I could drop him an email but the main problem is proving you are a member of the site, especially as we dont have a membership as such.
I was asked by a chap if he could turn up at Donington and bring a couple of models to shoot pics in the Junkies garage at Donington, No Limits didnt have a problem but Donington themselves wanted a hefty chunk of dosh to let it go ahead so it didnt

I have a decent size garage, and could make up some "donnington" boards............:flash: :boobs: :flash:

I tried to take some pictures at Rockingham and they wanted a fist full of cash to get trackside - at least £100 was mentioned by the marshall in charge to even consider letting me in

Yeah it's getting ridiculous - I just went to donny for some practice and to watch.
What I sold on the site just covered my fuel for getting there and back.

they also have very expensive equipement to buy...... camera bodies for the pro's are a couple of grand each, and they have several to allow for back ups, they need long fast lenses, and several of them as well..... some of the nikon long lenses are more than a new K7 750, plus their time and overheads all needs to be paid for. so in fact, their CD's at £30 are pretty good value in my opinion.
Pete wileman is a very good snapper, as is ryan at britishsportphotgraphy, as are the people at fresh orange, but they have no interest in just attending a day to take a pic of a few people, they need to do everybody, they have to pay the track or TD organiser to attend as well, so the margins are not as large as you might think.
Didnt know the circuits charged so much - like most things nowadays - gotta pay...
The main income of media photographers I would have thought are actual Race/Sports events I take it trackdays are a nice little earner as there are lots of them.
But I have seen charges of £20 for the first photo then £10 each. Sorry but for 5mb emailed photos thats alot....The CD type ones I thought were excellent value as there were quite a few pics on the CD...As for charging private viewers just to take pics of their own mates/groups etc is a con in my opinion.
The ones that are printed - well that's obviously more expensive to produce.
If anyone has their own and want good A4 prints you need to change the image as follows: Resize it to 210mm x 290mm (A4) then change resolution to 300dpi the human eye cannot distinguish beyond that according to a pro photographer. ...

the circuits wont stop you taking pics on a day, as long as you stay in the public areas... ie behind the fencing etc. as soon as you go the other side, like the pro's do, you need insurance and you need to pay the circuit or the organiser.
and theres a big difference to looking at a mates pics and saying they are good, and paying for pics, as when you are paying, you expect much better quality, somehting that your mate may not be able to do, if he doesnt have the right kit, or cant get trackside for certain shots.
a number of the TD snappers do it as their job to earn their living, not something they do as a pastime in between major sporting events.
you have to sign a disclaimer at cadwell for onboard video to say you wont use it commercially. if your found selling it on afterwards they can charge you a extortionate fee.
you'll also find trackdays are the main income rather than racing,££0 for 1 of pees cd is good value. if you race you dont worry about a shot of your knee down or a small wheelie over the mountain so i doubt they make a lot out of racing
