Shane Byrne has been ruled out of this weekend’s Snetterton round of the Bennett’s British Superbike championship after being knocked out in a horror crash when his brakes failed at near top speed.
The former champion was on one of the fastest bits of track in British racing, the Revett Straight, and when he went for the brakes at the end of the 180+mph stretch the lever came back to the bar, and he was forced to fold the front.

Shakey and his Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 careened all the way across the grass and slid back across the track at the peel-in point to the Bombhole corner.
He was out cold for two minutes, and a rule which says any rider knocked out is barred from racing for eight days means he won’t ride any more this weekend. Aside from the sore head, he is otherwise uninjured.
Jon Kirkham, who normally rides for Scuderia Stellare Suzuki, has been drafted in to ride Shakey’s bike, while British Supersport Piranah racing rider Simon Andrews will take Kirkham’s place

Oh well looks like we've got to pin our hopes on Haydon now :a5:

Statement from Rizla Suzuki
RIZLA SUZUKI has concluded an investigation into the possible causes of Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne’s high-speed crash during the first practice session at the seventh round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Snetterton.

Telemetry shows Shakey's bike was operating at full braking power on the previous lap and first two corners of the second lap immediately preceding the incident. There was no braking force applied at the end of the straight and this is believed to have caused the crash.

After a full and detailed examination of the race bike, the team found the pivot pin for the Brembo front brake master cylinder was missing. The team has not been able to recover the pivot pin for further examination.

Shakey's bike was prepared for the session with the pivot pin, spring clip and the additional safety measure of a securing cable tie in place.

Brembo’s Ian Edwards said: “This is the first time we have ever encountered this. After investigating the incident with Rizla Suzuki we now advise that lock wire should replace the cable tie as a safety precaution.”

***Shakey has told the team he enjoyed a good night’s sleep. He has a headache and feels second hand but otherwise is fine and is planning to be in the Rizla Suzuki garage tomorrow to support the team during the races.
