Was a thread on the old site, so will put one up on here as well.
It's everything you've ever heard about, plus some. Words can not describe how it feels like to go wheel to wheel with GT3's, Exige's, TVR's...etc...mile after mile after mile.
We go several times a year, the end trip is usually a big group. Over the August bank holiday, stay overnight in a Travel-Lodge in Dover on Friday, leave Sat morning to catch ferry at about 8ish. Arrive Calais mid morning, 1 hour through France, 3 hours through Belgium and you're on the German border and in the city of Aachen. We are looking at staying in Aachen this time (more night life - the 'Ring is in the middle of the Eifel mountains and there is diddly squat to do there at night), so Sunday it's 1 hours ride to the 'Ring, lap it all day if you can, then ride back to hotel and night life. Monday is the same as the previous day. Tuesday is touring / Autobahn thrashing day. Wednesday, ride back to Calais to catch an early evening ferry.
The 'Ring isn't open that often to the public, only a handful of weekends and the odd day here and there. You need road legal kit - no race bikes/trackday tools...etc...and also legal exhausts. Ferry is about 40 quid, Travel-Lodge 25 quid, Hotel in Aachen (Bar, swimming pool, restaurant, plus it's right in the centre of the city) is about 180 quid for 4 nights. (prices vary on exchange rate). You will then need about 80 quid for each day at the 'Ring (6 lap day ticket), petrol money, several changes of underwear and money for food....food is dirt cheap over there, petrol a little bit cheaper than over here (about 65p per litre), oh, and fag money if you want...About 400 quid sees you all in for 5 days.
A good site to look at is this link:-
http://nurburgring.org.uk/
At the moment, there are about a dozen of us going. We will be taking a support van (Merc Vito - room for 2 bikes) just incase anyone has a breakdown, no need for the hassle of getting you home then. Last year, there were 21 in the group and most were first timers there and to trackdays in general. it started off as a family holiday and grown into a big gathering of bikes who share a passion for riding the 'Ring.
If you want to tag along, drop me and e-mail / PM and I'll tell you know more about it. I will be booking stuff end of April, so need ferry and travel-lodge money by then with the remainder shortly after. Everything is booked in your name so what you pay for is what you get.

Yes that's him. He was due home Weds and was in a car and trailering bikes so should of been fine for getting home. I was first on the scene and the bike was a big big mess all front end non existant

So how the Feck did he manage to do that then mate
He came round a left hander, the car infront indicated right to allow him to pass (that's the rule), but a biker in front of the car came off (either low side or on oil) and the car was about to run him over so swerved left into Tommy's path and he went straight into the back of it (should of seen the dint....oooouch)

riding on the road is dangerous full stop..
the ring is a dangerous place, everyone's there for one thing - speed.
it's all to do with the attitude you go there with, you can't assume that because it's a track it's therefore safe-ish and ride like a tw#t. it's a toll road, anyone can go round it and there is always someone faster and someone slower. you could be chasing a ferrari one minute and a bus the next! it's full of blind bends and crests, often together and would take years to learn plus the weather can be different in places, dry at one end and wet at the other.
do some safe siting laps before you give it any welly and always treat it with the respect it deserves...
sounds like a nightmare :flash: :hump: :butt: :boobs:
The ring is on my list of things to do before I die, may be able to save a couple of days holiday this year.

having said what a dangerous place it is....
it's also bloody good fun, a deffinate rush.:turnon:
if it was that dangerous then our son wouldn't be going round it at the age of 6!
all to do with attitude, as with anything in life...
Miss Gixx is bang on with her comments on the "Ring". I have been going 2-3 times a year for the past 10 years, so I maybe considered experienced, but I do not count myself that way and I always take some time and a couple of laps to get backup to speed with each new visit. My next trip is over the weekend of 19 20 21 22 23 May, is anyon eelse going to be out there then? If you are goin gto the ring for the first time and want to ask anything feel free also this site http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/ is a great source of info. One thing to bear in mind unless you are there riding laps every day for weeks on end you will never learn it. (not even on a PC game Eliot)
i did the ring last year and it was awesome, going again in july:dance3: ,we used a b+b in belgium, the owner neil is a ring instructer and he took us round showing us the lines and kept us out of trouble, well worth it

Ya might have seen a black/silver/mauve 1100m and a red/black 750 srad there over the Easter weekend. I found it really nuts - it seemed on the Sat that the circuit was closed every 45 mins to clear the expensive debris off, the most being a Ł160k Porsche.
Never been before and could not believe it - if your not quick ya spend more time watching your mirrors than setting up the next of 73 differing corners. They just come storming on and just as ya planning to go deep their there taking the inside line power sliding at over 120 :dance3:
Lucky for me I came away accident free but was told if ya cause the track to be closed - you can be charged for down time, cost of clearing the tack and replacement of the barriers. All of which is mega bucks :butt:
Would do it again but think I'll give the bank holidays a miss - I like a bit of space around me should I mess up!
Some one told be there is a site where you can see if there are any photos of you on the specific day does anyone know the address?
try ben lovejoys nurburgring site he lists photographers at the ring on there, roll on july for another bash at the ring:D

Anyone else at the 'Ring this bank holiday weekend? We're staying at the Ringhaus hotel just outside the gates, look out for a Blue / White K3 and a new 600RR Telefonica (Lisa). There is a few others so come over and share in the BBQ at lunch time. Sunday only.

Well, after finally getting on a computer for more than 30 seconds, here is an overview of the trip in May...
As usual, we all meet at the Travel-lodge on the Friday night in Dover. That way, people can make their own way there and at whatever pace they want. It is also convenient as we are all scattered around the country. Lisa picked her new bike up and managed to put a couple of hundred miles on the clock before trailering it up ready for the 'Ring. The weather was good for the journey down, we had both booked the day off work and pulled Euan out of school for the Friday - as we were in a car the last thing we wanted to do was hit London after lunchtime on a bank holiday weekend....
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/183/p5260007lp5.jpg
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/6912/p5260011fq1.jpg
However, the traffic was still a nightmare. It normally takes us 5 hours steady drive to get to Dover from derby, but this time it took 9. Euan had an England supporter’s kit for his birthday, so he insisted on putting the flag on the car. By the time we were 10 miles down the road, the noise from the flap of the bloody thing was driving us insane. We eventually arrived at the travel lodge, being the last of the group to arrive - as everyone else was on bikes they could filter through. Everyone else was present so the beers flowed and the nerves began.
The ferry was at 08:30 the next morning, so after a quick wash we all set off in convoy. We couldn’t get on a Dover Calais one this time so we booked a Zebrugge one instead. This took us further up the coast but was an extra hour on the crossing. However, this extra hour was worth it as it meant we could relax for longer, beforehand we would sit down then it would be time to get up again and offload. The ferry was very clean and tidy, almost new, and the food although pricy (when isn’t it on ferries) was good. One of the group (Lee) managed to drop his Blackbird on the ferry, I gather he slipped on the deck and toppled over. Usual falling over damage but nothing serious and he was able to ride.
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/4609/p5270014oi5.jpg
After docking in Zebrugge, the bikes all went on ahead in convoy through France, Belgium and up to the German border (Leige) where we arranged to meet – that’s the photo above. As it happened, we were only 15 minutes behind as we could do it on a full tank. The road is boring as it is motorway all the way so everyone sat at a comfortable speed (only just over the limit – I got caught in Belgium once for doing 140kph in a 120kph, I got a 350 euro fine on the spot. The police was going to impound the car as we didn’t have the cash, but took me to a bank in Antwerp instead so I could withdraw the money. Lesson learnt there). From then on, the ‘Ring is only an hours drive away and as we know the route well, we all stayed in a group. In Germany, we could do any speed with the trailer so the pace was brisk. We arrived at the Ringhaus hotel at tea time which was just 300yds from the track entrance. This was the first time we had stayed there and initially it was looking good.
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/2225/p5280044re5.jpg
There were several Brits in cars there also, some hired, some of their own. Paul from our group manage to drop his Triumph Tiger right on the bonnet of a well known German car, this was pretty much a brand new one and top of the range for the mid sized series…it not only scratched all of the bonnet and bumper, it gouged it. Tigers are heavy bikes at the best of times, especially with crash bars on them. The bike was OK, but the car was a complete mess. As it was late, he decided to tell the owner the following day. As the ‘Ring didn’t shut until 7pm, some of us went out to do a sighting lap before hitting it hard the next day. 6 of us went out, and Kev on his ZX9 managed to cartwheel it about 5km into his first lap. Some said that it was inevitable by the way he shot off on a damp track, as I was only going to take it easy I had Euan on the back but as we rounded Kallenhard, he was there picking his bike up off the track. As it is illegal to stop on the ‘Ring unless someone needs medical assistance or to warn oncoming vehicles of danger, we had to carry on riding. He was OK but obviously pissed off about his bike. He managed to get a lift back to the entrance and we arranged to collect his bike the next day. We were now down to 9 bikes out of 10.
The food was excellent at the hotel, a main meal costing roughly 6 quid (9 euros) for something like salmon, of a steak. The waitress was Russian though, so we were trying to order German food, in broken English, French and German to a Russian waitress who could only speak as much of each language as we could….the food did eventually turn up and most of it was the right dishes. The beer flowed again and after watching some of the hotel DVD’s on the ‘Ring we went to bed. The hotel has their own race team, and garage set up which we could use, they race a Golf abut also have a Lotus 7 and a Mini Cooper for hire, about 180 euros a day each.
The next day we were woken by the sound of screaming engines setting off for the first laps of the ‘Ring. Out of our windows we could see part of the track through the trees and to know that that was the infamous ‘Ring was awesome. After breakfast we set off down to the track and made camp. I bought a 14 lap ticket (180 euros) and set off at a steady pace. The weather was brilliant sunshine and as I got myself dialled in, the times dropped and dropped as each lap went by. I had a really good tussle with a R32 Golf in the morning session, but by lunchtime I could leave him.

This is the start of the Nurburgring – it’s just like going into a multi-story, you pay your money, put your ticket in the machine, the barrier goes up and away you go on one of the most intense experiences of your life.
The car park started to fill with the usual exotica – Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, loads of Porsches and BMW’s…etc…petrol head heaven.

This looked a lot better in the flesh than it does in the photo, and it was bloody quick. Plenty of race teams practice at the ‘Ring so you can be up against some quick drivers there. This is Sabine below going out with some victims…

See post above first, couldn't fit it all in on one post....
We tried to book a Ring-Taxi later in the day, but it shut at 4. After lunch, some of the group went to some vantage points and watched the rest of us go round, we also got chatting to a Scottish bloke with an Elise, he said that he was running about 8 min 20’s. As I know Elise’s are only good for about 125mph, and it is a power circuit, I though I would shadow him as I can average an 8 min 40 lap and see how quick he really was (or slow as I suspected). He was offering passenger laps to our group so Lisa accepted. Holy spiders, I know I take it easy for the first few clicks to warm my tyres up but I couldn’t hold a candle to him. I reeled him in on the fast sections as he didn’t have the top end speed of the bike, and also on the uphills, but the rest of the circuit he left me like I was going backwards….Turned out he had an engine swap for a Civic type R, up-rated this and that, he worked in motorsport and did trackdays all the time (he was off to Spa for a trackday there the next day) and he had been taught to drive by his friend, who happens to teach the Benneton F1 team how to drive (technical driver)….He offered to take me out and whilst I was impressed at how quick he was, what really amazed me was how late he could brake into corners. He wouldn’t go pillion on me though….

Just look at the cars that go past as this Corvette is waiting to get out….you know you’re in crap when cars pull up alongside you and the occupants are wearing crash-hats.

http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/5268/p5280027xm8.jpg
Below is some mad German creation. I saw him out on track a few times and although he wasn’t that fast round the corners, when he lifted it up….you can just see the supercharger radiator below the normal radiator. It was a Gixer 1000 engine with a supercharger/turbo on the thing. Bloody hell it was fast in a straight line. I wish I had taken more photos’ of it.

Lisa just setting off on her first lap on her new bike, running it in of course…
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/5614/p5280033sr8.jpg
There were no more miss-haps from our group throughout the day except my bike developed an earth fault. The engine ran fine, but I had no revs, speedo or lights so it had to come back home on the trailer (illegal to ride on the continent without lights but I risked it on the ‘Ring). The track was also carnage. People were spinning off all over the place. Kevs bike was so badly damaged that he didn’t bother paying the 185 euros to collect it from the compound, just leaving it there instead. My best lap was when Sabine came past me with the car sideways. I tagged onto the back and she was obviously putting a show on for the spectators and the occupants, she had it stepping out every corner and spinning the wheels. She obviously wasn’t taking the fastest line as I could just keep with her, but to follow this M5 flat out round the ‘Ring, with smoke pouring from it’s tyres at every corner was just amazing….I’m smiling now at the memory of it. Me and Lisa went out for a lap with Euan as pillion around lunchtime…
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3479/p5280034du7.jpg
But due to the demolition derby that was going on that day, the Marshal said no to Euan as pillion.
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/8138/p5280037fa2.jpg
So he was sat with a jib-lip on as he couldn’t go out…
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/9276/p5280038pk9.jpg
This thing was also quick…so I had to park the Gixer next to it and show it who was boss….

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/3454/p5280032vn9.jpg
At the end of 14 laps, it was time to go home, but not before the obligatory pose by the sign…
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/1341/p5280039ua4.jpg
Back at the hotel, it was an evening meal and wind down from the days thrash. Some of the group sampled the local roads, and found some cracking ones, so much so that they went up and down it several times. The beer flowed again and it was about 4 before we turned in for the night, sitting up with the manager and chewing the fat.
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/218/p5280046ki9.jpg
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4950/p5280042cb9.jpg
After breakfast the following morning, we all set off and caught a mid afternoon ferry from Zebrugge back to Blighty – there was a free playstation on the ferry with the Norscleife circuit on it – I was challenged by everyone on it and lost miserably (no good at computer games). At the Leige services, Andy’s Blackbird clipped Marks new Gixer 1000 at the petrol pumps, knocked it over and split the crankcase cover, spilling its guts everywhere. On the trailer it went…However, most got in at around late evening time, knackered but still buzzing from riding the most exciting race circuit in the world, the Nurburgring. Roll on August…
There is 2 spaces left on the August trip, it’s 263 quid for your ferry and accommodation (5 nights). If you want to go, pm me but please be patient, I can’t get onto a computer that often to check messages. There is a back-up van this time (Merc Vito) and the ‘Ring is open for 2 of the days we are over there for. Leave Friday 25th, return Wednesday 30th Aug.

Top write up and photos :) Shame your lad couldn't get on - bet he was gutted!
Quality place, and as others have said very dangerous if you go with the wrong attitude. Only done it the once myself, about 18 laps, and can't wait to get back but I think it's going to be next year before I can afford to again :(
Don't know if you've seen this video of Mick and Dunc puttin in a 8'15" lap. Quality, especially when Dunc has a little moment, lol
http://www.bonemachine.com/ring/Mick_and_Dunc.mp4 (it's iPod format so not sure if that's going to work or not - if it doesn't and you're interested in seeing it, let me know and I'll sort something else out - I've a feeling it's on video.google somewhere actually)
I only had one lap that I was aware of lap time, which came in at around 9'50", though we were slowed for an accident just after the mini Karousel, so I've a lot to learn yet! My excuse was that I was still running in the 750k6, and I'm sticking to that excuse ;)
Ah bugger - took ages to download at work and then that clip wouldn't work!
But yer good write up - maybe a Gixer Junkie's day to the ring is on the cards....although it would take somer serious planning!
Glad you enjoyed it though...hope your son was consolable!

Saw and old mate in town at lunch and a few of his friends went to the ring last week, he said it was shut as there were 2 fatalities both bikers !!
One bloke had an off, there were no witnesses and was laying dead in the road and a porsche came barreling around the corner the porsche managed to pull up and stop and call for help but a bike came round the corner and went straight into the back of the parked Porsche the rider was killed on impact !!!
Sad News !!

Wicked video, the red Porsche was also going some...That's some 'moment' near the beginning of the lap, my heart skipped a beat just watching it!

Well as ive only just bought my 750 (k3) and its August already i suppose i better get some miles done before i put it away for the winter lay-up. What better way than 1300ish miles in 5 days going to the Ring.

how long did it take to get there then
It takes as long to get to Dover from Derby (250 miles) as it does to the 'Ring from calais (275 miles). Reckon about 5 hours each leg. Waiting for everyones photos from the group before I write a brief on the trip, but in short it was wet, wet and more wet. Pissed it down every day there but the road from Cochem was excellent (30 minutes along brilliant sweepers), the circuit was empty as well as like an ice rink, every lap I had a few moments. Still managed to do it in about 13 minutes though...Did about 16 laps over the 3 days, nice to have the circuit to yourself and instead of attacking each corner, trying to go as fast as you can round each one, riding in the wet gives you more time to analyse each section / corner and pick better / alternative lines. The wine festival was excellent, a massive street party over a week, ending in fireworks on the Sunday. lots of cheap wine and good quality stuff at that. We took over the dodgems for half an hour one night....
looking forward to next year, watch this space....

In my time living over in Germany I went to the ring on a number of occasions. Sadly I never had the inclination to ride around due to the scare stories in the German Press. I often dreamed of a few laps but never did. I did watch a few onboard laps though and heres one of my faves.......enjoy:

I have PM'd most with the below message, but I'm sure there are some I've missed out as so many off here are going. If I have, then please PM me with the answers to the questions below.
I know some of you are still undecided / unsure about coming due to one reason or another, but I am trying to organise the ferry for the June (1st – 6th) trip and August (17th – 28th) trip next year, and sort out various bits and pieces. Can you all please provide me with:-
Full name and contact details (home address and telephone number, plus a mobile number if you want) plus the same for any friends who you have coming along. This is so I can frantically phone you all to sort it all out….
Which trip are you coming on (or both)?
How many are in your group – is it just you? partner also? group of friends? (this is so I can book double or twin rooms at the hotel)
Do you have a 2 or 3 bike trailer, or can you get hold of one (1 is no good as it’ll prove costly on the ferry, unless you’re willing to pay the extra)?
Do you have a car with a tow-bar? (even if you don’t have a bike trailer, some have offered us a trailer to use and are not coming on the trip).
If so, are you willing to drive with a 2 bike trailer?
At present, there are 31 going on the June trip, we have the hotel to ourselves and the Caterhan 7 to hire (300 euros a day), so if 4 of you want to chip in and hire it for a day, then it’ll cost you in the region of about 50 quid for the day thrashing it round the ‘Ring…..Am also trying to book the famous ‘Ring-Taxi’ also for some laps.
There are 12 confirmed on the August trip, but possibly a few more. We are at Cochem for the full duration, and will be touring Europe from there. The Wine fest is on the whole time we are there, and the ‘Ring is open every day / evening.
If you can let me know as soon as possible please, I want to book sooner as the prices will be lower.
Thanks.

Welcome to the site Shredder. Impressive time there, you'll have to show me how to go that quick round it, would love to dip under the 8 min mark but can't do it, no matter how hard I try. We're there next year at Easter weekend, May Bank Holiday, Mid July and August 18 - 28th. What trips you doing next year?
Won't be long now then boys and girls :D
