STATEMENT - Cadwell Park
28-08-06

Cadwell Park – Monday August 28th 2006 – 10.00am
MCRCB-Events regret to announce that Ashley Martin, aged eighteen from Shiptonthorpe, Yorkshire has died in hospital after sustaining injuries in an accident at the Gooseneck Corner at Cadwell Park circuit. The incident occurred during a qualifying practice session on Sunday August 27th for the British Supersport Championship. There were no other riders involved and the practice session was immediately stopped.

He was unconscious at the scene after suffering a major head injury. He was treated by the BSB Medical Team at trackside and subsequently in the medical centre, where he was anaesthetised and ventilated. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance transferred him from the circuit to the Leeds General Infirmary to be assessed by the neurosurgical unit.

He sadly succumbed to his injuries early this morning.

The circumstances of the incident will be subject to investigation by the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and the relevant authorities.

At this desperately sad and tragic time, our thoughts and profound sympathies are with the family and friends of Ashley and when appropriate we will be seeking instruction from them as to how to provide the best possible tribute.

saw the air ambulance take him away but never thought for a minute......... only 18 as well.

They say if you are passionate about something you would die for it, well this young lad was passionate about racing, he knew what was involved with it & it took his life.......I have no doubt in my mind that he would have regretted anything within his career in racing.......all in all it was his decision to race.......

Respect.

My Sympathy to All Family and Friends

I know it's no consolation as he was so Young but to die doing something he loved is far far better than getting cancer and dying slowly without being able to fight back.

No doubt he didn't know he was about to take his last lap and even so he most probably knew the dangers and still continued to race.
His Life His Choice....Respect....

We all know the dangers of Living Fast - it's just the 'Dying Young' that sucks.

The Sport is Dangerous in it's design and we all must take into consideration they know that and still love doing it.

Every Single person that goes round a track is doing it through choice, they do not do it because they just want to entertain us - they love it and so do we... Thankyou to the heroes of the fast Bike

RESPECT

I heard about this when watching the BSB this weekend. For me, it serves as a reminder that motorcycling is dangerous in any guise, even on tracks designed to keep you alive as best as possible after crashing. Be careful out there peeps.
