Crutchlow destroys rivals to win
Cal Crutchlow put on a crushing display to win the eleventh round of the World Supersport Championship and further extend his advantage in the overall standings.
The Briton led from lights-to-flag, resisting the initial attentions of Kenan Sofuoglu to reel off a series of record laps and win by a significant ten seconds over Eugene Laverty.
The scale of Crutchlow's victory cannot be underestimated, the Yamaha rider finishing more than half minute ahead of each rider from fourth place down, cementing his status as the clear favourite to wrap up the title this year.
Even so, Laverty was able to keep the increase pegged at just five points after prevailing in an entertaining dual with Joan Lascorz, one that saw them battling away until the chequered flag. Despite two moments on the final lap where the Spaniard, who announced he has re-signed for Kawasaki this weekend, looked as though he would pass, Laverty held firm to maintain second position to the end of the race.
Significantly for Lascorz, he is now classified third in the standings after Sofuoglu was forced to retire towards the end of the race. The Turk was running second early on, but a mistake dropped him outside the top ten before a technical issue forced him to finish early.
With other front runners, including Michele Pirro and Katsuaki Fujiwara coming down, Massimo Roccoli was a strong fourth on the Intermoto Czech Honda, while Brno winner Fabien Foret followed in fifth position after just holding off Mark Aitchison at the chequered flag.
Beleaguered defending champion Andrew Pitt put in his best result since Miller Motorsports Park, ahead of Garry McCoy, who spoiled his front row start with a tardy getaway that left him outside the top ten initially. Robbin Harms and Danilo Dell'Omo were also good point scorers in ninth and tenth.
Elsewhere, Michael Laverty was running strongly in the points before coming down, while Sam Lowes just missed out on a crucial top 15 finish in 16th.
