Auto66 is like any club in that the guys who win the 600 and open races are fast. The differences are that Auto66 has one or two fast people, New era superclub and MRO have lots and lots of fast people.

can't help on a66 prices but pm me if you want more info re racing in general.

I've raced with Auto 66 club a few years ago, back in 2000 / 2001. At the time they only raced at Carnaby (air base), Elvington (at the end of the runway, bumpy as a ploughed field) and Olivers Mount (great place, watch out for the hairpin). Without having a look at their website, I think they also do Cadwell and a another track, but it could be grape vine gossip.

Whatever the club fees are (again, without looking at the website, I think about 50 quid for Auto 66), plus cost of race licence (can't remember if it's 25 or 50 quid), as it's your first licence you'll have to pay an extra 50 quid and do a days training in Rugby learning about flags...etc...(I believe, not done it myself as it only came in within the last couple of years). You'll need an optician to say you've not got a white stick and your GP to say you're stupid enough to start racing, or that you're medically fit - one or the other - both optician and GP have to sign your race licence application form. Once you have done that, you have to send it off to your chosen club (Auto 66 in this case) along with your club entry fees and club entry form. the club then stamp it and either send it directly to the ACU, or back to you and you then send it on to the ACU (Auto Cycle Union - same as the glod sticker on the back of your lid). You sit back, wait for your race licence to come through, panic that your bike will be too slow and your tyre warmers will pack up the first time you use them, then fill in a race entry form (Auto 66 will probably send you a welcome pack with all races they will be running, plus entry forms for each race, or entry forms for the first half of the year). You'll get in return your race number (usually the bloody day before you leave for the race), practice pass, and disclaimer forms. take all this with you and go sign on, queue up for scrutineering (usually about 07:30 in the morning), go out for 3 laps practice, then wait nervously for your first race.

You will be called for it, you go out and do your sighting lap where you'll line up on the grid, then it's your warm-up lap. Don't bin it 'cos sometimes they charge you (50 quid last time I lobbed it on the warm-up lap....). Line up on the grid in your chosen slot - then move forward to the proper one as there is quite often a few number 26's written on the start line....

Clutch in, in gear, everyone revving their engines, red flag hurries to side of track and you focus on the lights. As soon as they go out, the adrenaline hits you like a house brick and all fear is washed away instantly. you aim for the first apex, clashing elbows and fairings with 32 other idiots all wanting the same bit of tarmac. You have 6 laps to get to the front, and it's a very short time indeed....

Do this 4 times over the day and that's it. The best 200 odd quid per day you'll ever spend. Have fun, I've never looked back. I started off on an RGV250 in the 400SS class.

You can ring the ACU in Rugby to arrange your training course and download your application form from their website.I'm just applying myself so have already done the above. You need the optician to sign your form but don't need the GP to sign for a novice's licence. Good luck ! I'm already pumped and I haven't got the licence yet !!
