View Full Version : Foreign Track Day

Tink
07-04-2006, 19:45
Just sitting here thinking that next year i would love to do a foreign track day or Ride the Nurburgring or even go over to Mondello Park in Ireland and meet a few Junkies from over their (mmmmm cold Guinness and Caffreys)

No Limits put their dates out in Late December, early January and they do Mondello

If we were to go for one late Aug / Sept

What about it. I have a junkies account we could all pay in say £10 a month and by the summer of 2007 we would probably have enough to cover the track day and the ferry over !!!

You know go down on Friday catch ferry, get to B&B/hotel have few beers, sample foreign culture , do trackday, back to hotel, more beer, chill, Ferry back home

What people think ????

:D:D:D

I think you would be knackered doing all that in a weekend :D

To get valuable track time on a foreign track you need to be at the circuit for a few days.

Something like this would interest me, but not riding over then doing the track day then riding home (What Happens If Someone Bins It ???)

I'm thinking of doing this Jerez trip with Focused Events

Overview

Jerez GP Circuit, 23rd Oct 2006

Join us at the fantastic JEREZ circuit.

Imagine riding through the flowing curves of a Spanish circuit in temperatures unknown to Britain until the height of the summer months. Then heading back to your hotel full of stories from the full days riding to enjoy Spanish food and good hospitality.

Focused Events gives you the chance to break away from the normal UK trackday routine by offering 4 full days riding on track. Accommodation will be at a 3 or 4 Star Hotel, with lots of entertainment. Transfers to and from the circuit everyday. Fully insured bike transport and flights from the UK. The trip is suitable for riders of all abilities and is an excellent opportunity for riders to hone their track skills by riding for four consecutive days with free instruction. We can also offer a competitive non-rider package ideal for treating partners or bringing the family.

Circuito De Jerez is an exciting 2.75 mile circuit with 15 corners. It is one of the favourite places for winter testing for Grand Prix teams and this year held the opening round of the GRAND PRIX SEASON. It offers riders the chance to sample its long uphill start-finish straight which is linked by 9 right hand turns and 6 left hand turns all of which vary in radius and gradient. This is the circuit that will have you thinking about Rossi and Doohan while either changing up through the gearbox or hammering on the brakes....!

You will need a good rest when you get home !

Circuito de Jerez has held up to date seventeen Motor Cycling Grand Prix.

This area sees average temperatures as high as 28oc with rain being virtually unknown. Not as a typical day in Britain then!.

Price includes:
4 days riding
Fully insured return transport for your bike
Return flights and transfers
Accommodation in a 3 or 4 Star Hotel
All our usual support services including
Focused Events Photographic Service, full tyre support with our own
Service and Supply vehicle

Package Price £820.00.

We can also offer you tailor made packages to suit your own requirements.

If you are thinking about bringing a partner or having a family holiday, they may like to enjoy some of these other activites in and around Jerez, a beautiful part of Spain the home of Sherry making !

These can include :

Golf Guided Tours of the local Bodaga's (where the Sherry was made) And just down the road is the wonderful Spanish Med for beach trips.

Bikes will be transported from the UK by fully insured professional bike transport company.

DISTANCES FROM THE CIRCUITO DE JEREZ TO:

Jerez 10 Km Arcos de la Frontera 20 Km Cádiz 35 Km Sevilla 95 Km Málaga 240km.

We always have a support van - for that 'just in case' situation and peace of mind.....although everyone has AA cover there, it's a lot easier to load it in a van and just get the thing home. Thankfully, we've not had to use it yet. I always carry a spare set of tyres incase someone gets a puncture, plus all tools to do most jobs on a bike roadside. Also, everyone can throw their luggage in the van - saves carrying it then. The mileage you don't tend to feel until you get home, but it's a relaxed exhaustion - if you know what I mean. A Vito van is the same price on the ferry as a car, but a 2 bike trailer is 90 quid more...? Go figure...

OK, lets get some provisional numbers for a trip to the Ring next year - we're only going twice, last weekend in May and the last weekend in August. Both are over Bank Holiday weekends so less holidays are needed / used up. The May one returns on the Tuesday 29th, the August a day later on Wednesday 29th. Budget about 250 quid for each trip (Travel-Inn, ferry and accomodation) - May trip usually costs a bit less, August trip a bit more depending upon hotel prices and exchange rate. If you're bringing a friend then let me know, likewise if you're bringing partner then also let me now so that I'll book a double room. Both trips we stay overnight at Dover in a travel-inn (good meeting point as any), and the ferry is Sat morning (9ish).

I'll quite happily answer any questions or fears you may have, everything is booked in your name (ferry and all nights accomodation), I usually pay for everything in one go on a credit card. Ring opening dates come out end of Feb / beginning of March so the above dates may move a week either way if they clash with an event - it's not open that often. Sorry, but that's the way it is. I'm booking hotel when we're over there end of the month as when the dates are released next year, everywhere just gets booked up immediatly. We (me and Lisa) don't make anything on the trips, it'sa nice organising a big ride out somewhere and seeing everyone have a good time. It makes no odds whether I book 2 or 20 rooms at the hotel - we're going anyway, if you have paid 100% up front before I pay, then you're going to the Ring.

As a side note, there is one space for our trip end of the month, PM me for more details if you're interested. Someone has paid up but not able to make it now.

Each year, there are half a dozen who are Ring first timers and all sorts of bikes attend. You won't be the fastest but you won't be the slowest either, no matter what you ride. We always have a car and 2 bike trailer, or a 2 bike van that goes for that 'just incase' situation and to put luggage in.

It is a highly addictive place, Jase750 has already expressed an interest in going (and paid for this year but had to pull out) and a few others on here have also said they want to go. If you want to chat to others who have gone / are going, PM me and I'll happily give you their phone number. I'll require full payment by end of Feb next year when I can confirm the hotel dates. We stay right by the Ring, you can usually wake up to the sound of race cars thrashing it round the circuit, seeing them flash through the trees infront of the hotel. I don't want any money now (don't know exact prices until I book), but please only put your name down if you're genuinely serious about going.

So, provisional list as follows:-

Physiogixer + 6 others
Miss Gixx
Jase750

14-08-2006, 14:04
Hey! Whats wrong with this year!!!

£80 for a ferry return + petrol + beer + £10 a lap at the ring. Its only 265 miles from Callle Calis, Ca.. France and if you set off at 9pm you'd be there to get 5 laps in and hit the bar by 8pm

The beer they do is awsome & its safe to say the track is pretty special too!

you are talking about next year - i just got a little confused reading Physiogixers posts and presuming he was talking about the trip for the end of this month (that ive blagged a place in)- he seems to go a couple of times a year though so he could well be talking about next years one already!

Anyway for anyone who hasnt done it the ring is a must do

Sorry - I'll shut up now

I would love to do the Ring, and Spa, Physiogixer was saying that they almost rode past Spa so be good if could kill 2 birds with one stone.

I was on about next year - the names above apply for the May trip (the bank holiday at the end of May, Stay in Dover on Friday 25th, ferry on Sat 26th, ride ring Sat night, Sunday and Monday, return ferry tues 29th) but if you want to do both trips, or come on the August trip (an extra day to sample the local roads) then let me know. TheloneStriker is going on the trip this year (10 days time - not that I'm rubbing it in or excited about it) and he is right, it is a must do place.... Will have a look at Spa trackdays also - good idea that Tink. Never knew we were so close to it until we drove past it on the last trip there. Will look at doing that with the Aug trip next year. Watch this space.

OK Folks, I am looking for numbers for trips to the 'Ring next year, so I know how many spaces to book. Spaces are limited (most hotels nearby are small and won't physically cater for a large group, ie more then 15 / 20) The dates are as follows:-

May Bank Holiday run to the 'Ring weekend...

May Fri 25th to Wed May 30th

August 'Ring tour and wine festival / Mosel / Rhine tour + Switzerland + Luxemburg + Spa trackday (if it's open and money permits):-

Aug Fri 17th to Tues 28th.

Please let me know if you are bringing partners as I will then specify a double room.

The August trip will be in the region of 350 quid per head - could be more, but I intend to have 2 weekends riding of the Nurburgring, as well as a tour of Europe. Plus getting ratarsed during the wine festival...

I don't need any money until the beginning of next year (end of Feb), just numbers as this is for the hotel reservations only - they get booked up very quickly - trying to get organised on this one for a change....

Please please, please only say you are going if you have every intention of doing so. While I appreciate that circumstances may change, I will be paying for everyones place on credit card and block booking it early next year, so I will chase you for the money anyway. Refunds are generally a no no - ask Jase750, it's not me, the ferry companies whack ammendment and cancellation charges on me, so do Premier Travel Inn. I will double and triple check with everyone just before I book just to be on the safe side but will reserve hotel beds soon.

Please PM me with names and numbers in group, plus phone number. Any questions then please feel free to ask. I wish to have numbers by the end of the month if possible.

Thanks,

Mike

26 have given a definite yes, about half a dozen I have reserved spaces for, but will confirm when I book ferry early next year - (don't worry if your name is down and you said maybe, I included it for the hotel booking as it's better to cancel rather than try and find rooms. We have taken over a complete hotel near the circuit....)

August trip I will confirm at a later date, as only a handfull off here are going on that one. If I've missed you off, please PM me and I'll add you to the reservation list - apologies if I have, that many have e-mailed me with replies to my questions I've lost track.

Just i posted the above, I recieved this e-mail from the hotel...

Hi Mike,

I am quite sure that you do NOT want to come on Saturday the 26th of May 2007!!!

This is traditionally the 'Rock am Ring' weekend and the rock fans are CAMPING on Nordschleife ... so forget about driving the Ring because it will be closed until Tuesday. And you can't imagine what is going on when 200,000 rock fans are camping in Nurburg ...it's like a refugee camp in Africa ;-)

Even if the dates are not published yet, I would recommend to start thinking about another weekend!

Cheers

Frank Hiersekorn

I have proposed the following weekend, June 2nd to June 6th. If this is going to be a problem for anyone, then please let me know as we may be able to go the week beforehand instead.

AND...

we have a Lotus Caterhan 7 booked for us to use/play in/break that weekend round the Nurburgring.

AND...

I am also trying to book the Ring-Taxi for a few laps that weekend also. Watch this space. If you've not heard of the Ring-Taxi, then look here:--

I went to ireland this year. 12 of us left left peterborough at eight and had a leisurely (ish) ride and caught the 12 oclock ferry from hollyhead. We were in ireland checked into our b&b and ready to go out and sample dublin by 7pm. :dance3:

We then spent sat watching the practise sessions at the skerries road racing, and then went out again in the evening. Problem with the guiness over there is that once you have had one you have to have 10. Which meant that sunday was spent nursing a sore head in the morning. We then went and watched the road racing on sunday and traveled back through the scenic wales country side on monday.

Doing a trackday instead of watching the racing would deffo be feasable. So I could well be interested although we are already going over there to watch the racong again. Have to say except my stag do this was one of the best weekends i have had

12 blokes all away from home, beer, foreign women and bikes. EXCELLENT:a14:

http://www.racedays.net/video/SBA0307JoeSanchezSimonEaston.wmv Apologies for the pedestrain first lap but didn't have warmers for this one.

This was a Racedays Superbike School Event with instructors such as Jeremy McWilliams, Dean Ellison & Maria Costello.
The track itself is on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is simply stunning; by far the track with best backdrop I've ever been to and I've been to a few. The circuit had been re-surfaced just months before we arrived. BSB boys had been testing just a couple of weeks beforehand and Johny Rae has demolished the track record.
The video is taken on day two AM session so we'd had day one to learn the circuit. By day three we'd sliced off 5 seconds from our lap times.
This was my 3rd event with Racedays and I can highly recommend any of their events as they're a mixture of TD, tuition and race (with grid start!).
I've now done a few more with Racedays including a very exclusive event at Ascari where Randy Mamola was my instructor for a complete AM session (boy can he talk).

I know it could get a bit pricey but you can sometimes get some track time after a wsb or motogp round. maybe we could go for a long weekend catch some racing then ride the track on the monday?
What do the rest of you think about that?

Interesting thread. :D

I've fancied a foreign track day for some time and three/four days on track would be heaven, but, I for one am shattered after doing one track day let alone three/four days on the trot, probably more so than a long weekend with a track day thrown in for good measure, and what happens if you bin it on the first day?????
You'd be gutted!

Have to agree with Tink, £800/£900 is a lot of wedge and that kind of money would get 2 people 2 weeks relaxing on a beach in the sun somewhere.:beach: (which is what we'll be doing in four weeks time :D:D:D)

I know there's a lot of peeps on here that are big fans of the Ring, but it really doesn't appeal to me.
Anyone that's ever seen footage of the ring and ridden our local roads might agree with me here, but they look very much the same, minus the Porsche's and coaches.

We do about 400 miles on a weekend loon on our local roads, so couldn't we just head in the direction of Assen, cos every time I've watched the racing on the box, I've pointed at the TV and said "I want to do that one" cos it looks awesome, and it's only a hop across the water.

Anyhow, me and Zuki are up for joining you for a trip Tink.

If you are after a few days at Spa and the ring, then try http://www.aeaventures.com
I've stayed with Neil and Anne a few times before on visits to Nurburgring, very friendly couple. Trackdays at Spa are organised by Bikersdays. Neil is an instructor at the ring and Spa, so will offer guidance.

I have not made the pilgrimage to the holy bike Meccha(Nurburgring) yet, and I'm definitely very interested in that. Though anything off in that direction would be great, Magny Cours, Spa, Assen etc. If we could make it a Gixerjunky ride up there with plenty of drinking and shenanigans then all the better, and I'm prepared to take some work days off to do it.

Scotty I know what your saying.. TBH the fact of cars on the track was the one thing I wasn't particularly looking forwards to on my first trip with with Physiogixer and Jase750....

But ...

Honestly - Wow !!! its is the only place to ride your bike and having cars there made it for me - it was Soooooo much fun racing with Porsches GT3s etc. - I liked it so much I want to let cars into bike trackdays here. !
