View Full Version : Who has raced at........
Oulton Park, Anglesey and Aintree on a K1 to K3 GSXR 600????
Reason i ask is, im starting racing next year and ive got a K1 GSXR 600 with decent specs and some engine mods and ive got various sprockets obviously to suit different tracks.
So all i want to know is if you have raced at the above tracks on a bike similar to mine, what sprocket sizes did you use at what track???
I know im only starting out, but atleast if i get a bit of knowlege about tracks and set up then its all gonna help me in the long run!!!
Also what kind of tyre pressures do i need to be running compared to standard?
And finally if theres anythin else anyone can say to help please do!!!!
:D

P.S
Forgot to add, what are the if any comon faults with this bike or what breaks that i should maybe keep spares of???
mate, don't concern yourself too much with gearing and spension settings. You can get yourself tangled into a knot. These things are important when you are fast. When you are starting out, sort a middle of the road gearing, suspension settings that are acceptable (if you don't know what you are doing or have a bike set up for/by someone else itmay be worth spending £40 on a track day for their resident suspender guy to give you a base setting.) Until you are very quick, it is in the mind. Once you have the bike behaving in an acceptable manner you just need to concentrate on your riding. You can pick up 1/10s ofa second with settings but when you are learning, you can pick up whole seconds by riding better. I'm sure people will disagree with me but that is my experience from 4 years racing.
Hi sween, i know im not gonna go out there and win races straight away, was just a thought instead of turning up at a track and it topping out on the straight aint gonna do me any favours but at the same time i didnt want to be acclerating behind everyone.
As for suspension its got maxton rear shock and revalved forks, so its perfect for me and the guy i bought it off wasnt much heavier than me so i shouldnt have any problems.
I just wanted a rough base setting for gearing, i guess i will just use stock sizes out of my bag of sprockets and get a feel for it when im out on the track.

It would make more sense to do some trackdays at the circuits you've not ridden before racing there.... You will get so little track time for practise and qualifying at club level race meetings and as a novice your head will be spinning from the whole racing on a track in close proximity to others experience, that gearing and suspension set up will be the last thing on your mind.
Gearing is very much a personal thing - both rider and bike. As an example I gear my 750 to use 5 gears at Brands GP - but I go tall so only use 1st to 5th. Works for me - but other gear for using 2nd to 6th. It's personal preferance most of the time.
I race 600’s with Bemsee so don’t get to ride the tracks you mentioned. Good advise about just getting out there and ride, but I do understand wanting to get as many things sorted so you can so you just concentrate on riding.
Remember using someone else gearing is ok good but if they’re a quicker rider then approaching, corner and exiting speed will differ and possibly gear selection. Almost 100% of tracks in UK you should be using 14 front and then have selection of 46-51. I’d say 14-47 is a good starting point.
Tyre pressures 30.5 front and 27.5 rear. Wets should have a few more psi, and only have tyres warmers on for about 10mins.
Good luck,
Adam
