Haga a winner again as he lords the 'Ring

Haga fights his way past Carlos Checa before easing off when his rival crashes out of contention.
Noriyuki Haga is celebrating his first World Superbike Championship win in almost five months after a confident performance in race two at the Nurburgring.

The Japanese rider put a fall from second place in the opening race firmly behind him as he fought his way into the lead on lap four and didn't look back.

Haga's cause was aided by Carlos Checa crashing out whilst pressuring for the lead, though he still had to contend with the attentions of race one winner Jonathan Rea.

Nonetheless, the Northern Irishman would eventually fade as Haga pushed on, last year's runner-up crossing the line for only his second win of the season, his first since Valencia back in April.

The start of the race was a tidy affair, the riders jostling through the tight first corner hairpin, the pack emerging with Checa in front, ahead of Haga, Rea, Max Biaggi and Tom Sykes.

However, it soon became evident that the winner would come from the top three riders as they stretched away from the chasing pack, Checa, Haga and Rea covered by less than a second.

Just as he did in the first, however, Haga would find his way past Checa on lap four, the Spaniard running wide on the exit of turn one to allow Haga through around the outside of turn two.

While Haga's lead did nothing to keep Checa off his tail, he would receive a boost when the Althea rider made an uncharacteristic mistake on lap nine and crashed out of the position.

Putting a small margin between Haga and Rea, the Northern Irishman attempted to bridge the gap but was never able to fully get onto the tail of his rival, the Japanese rider streaking away to win by a clear three seconds.

Rea crossed the line second to record the highest points' haul of the day, the Ten Kate Honda rider capitalising on Checa's accident to also put a healthy margin between himself and the Ducati man in the fight for third overall.

The battle for the final spot on the podium proved to rather more intense as Haslam, despite damaging ligaments in his knee with his race one accident and nursing injuries to his arm and hand, fought his way up to third position at the expense of Crutchlow and Biaggi.

Although Crutchlow maintained close contact with Haslam after he overtook on lap seven, he was never able to find a way past, the Suzuki rider recording a remarkable result given the extent of his injuries.

Crutchlow in turn held off Biaggi, who never recovered from a wide moment through turn one on seven, the champion-elect settling for fifth after being forced to resist Sylvain Guintoli, the Frenchman unable to make his front row start count when he made a poor start.

Despite finishing behind Haslam, Biaggi still carries a 58 point advantage with only 100 points left to play for at Imola and Magny-Cours.

Further back, Tom Sykes completed his best race day with Kawasaki yet with a run to seventh place, the Briton comfortably out pacing the chasing pack of James Toseland, Ruben Xaus and Shane Byrne who rounded out the top ten.

Unlike race one, retirements were kept to a minimum as only Checa and Ian Lowry would fail to finish, though Michel Fabrizio suffered his second non-score after tyre problems necessitated a pit-stop.

Rea cruises to Nurburgring victory

The Northern Irishman emerges from turn one with the lead and never looks back as he dominates.
Jonathan Rea has taken his fourth World Superbike Championship win of the season with a commanding lights-to-flag victory in an otherwise eventful race at the Nurburgring.

The Northern Irishman made the most of his inherited inside front row grid position to snatch the lead at the first bend before protecting his advantage to the chequered flag.

Having been bumped up from fifth to fourth by virtue of a penalty for original front row qualifier James Toseland after qualifying, Rea signalled his 'inside advantage' during the first start as he grabbed the lead through the opening sector.

However, he would have just one lap to enjoy his time out front when the race was stopped following an accident for Leon Haslam and Troy Corser at turn four. Haslam came down on the outside of the bend, sending various bikes scattering to avoid him, including the two Yamahas, but it was Corser that would find himself with nowhere to go as he was forced to come down.

Despite this, both riders made the restart, though Haslam appeared to be struggling with his hand after seemingly being clipped by a rival whilst on the ground.

At the restart, Max Biaggi got away best from pole position, but found himself nudged to the outside of the pack when Carlos Checa's attempts to go deep instead sent both himself and his rival wide. While Checa collected it in time to hold onto second, Biaggi was down to eighth.

Instead, Rea was out in the lead once more, followed by Checa, Noriyuki Haga, Tom Sykes and an ailing Haslam.

Further back, Corser continued his erratic weekend as he eliminated both himself and Sylvain Guintoli from the reckoning with a bungled move at the Dunlop hairpin, the Australian making contact with the Frenchman to send them across the gravel and to the back of the field.

Having started down in tenth place, Cal Crutchlow was making good early progress, passing both Haslam and Sykes to be up to fourth by the end of lap two. However, while Crutchlow was moving up, team-mate James Toseland was down and out, the former champion crashing at Kumho after low-siding from his Yamaha.

Back at the front, Haga was pressuring fellow Ducati rider Checa for second, the Japanese rider – a double Nurburgring winner in 2008 – scything past on lap three.

However, while Haga briefly hinted at a charge up to the back of the leader, Rea simply pumped in a new fastest lap to up the pressure. Indeed, as the race neared the mid-way point, Haga was coming under renewed pressure from Checa once more, a toll that eventually told when he crashed out of the position on lap eight at Kumho, much to his obvious frustration.

Breaking up the leading group, while Checa worked hard to try and get the gap down to Rea, it wasn't enough to put the result in any doubt, Rea crossing the line for his fourth win of the year, one that also cements his third place in the standings.

A late charge would see Checa finish just over a second behind, while Crutchlow would fade back to a lonely third, just over ten seconds adrift of the leaders.

Capitalising on accidents for Haga, Toseland and Michel Fabrizio – the latter compounding an awful race for Ducati Xerox by falling at turn one before eventually retiring -, Biaggi battled his way back up to fourth position to eke out a further three points on his series lead over sixth place Haslam.

Making the most of his season-best seventh place starting position, Tom Sykes completed his second top five finish for Kawasaki with a spirited ride, the Briton doing a fine job to maintain a good pace throughout.

While the lead group was strung out, the battle for sixth went down to the wire as Haslam tussled with Ruben Xaus, Shane Byrne and Guintoli, the latter making an outstanding fight back from his earlier delay to join the pack late on.

Nonetheless, while Xaus was able to catch and pass Haslam five laps from the finish, the Briton dug deep on the final lap to snatch sixth place back off the Spaniard and keep the damage to his title hopes fairly minimal. Xaus finished seventh in an otherwise tough race for BMW on home soil, ahead of Guintoli and Byrne.

With just 14 riders reaching the chequered flag, Luca Scassa was tenth, Lorenzo Lanzi 11th, Ian Lowry 12th on his WSBK debut, Roger Lee Hayden 13th and Matteo Baiocco 14th.

WSS: Gino Rea loses career-best second

Gino Rea has his second place finish at the Nurburgring taken away from him due to a breach of regulations.
Gino Rea has been excluded from the World Supersport race at the Nurburgring after his Intermoto Czech Honda was found to be in breach of the regulations.

The youngster had been celebrating his career-best result of second place after a thrilling exchange between himself and eventual race winner Eugene Laverty around the German circuit.

However, technical checks after the race found the CBR600RR to not conform, though the official reason hasn't been revealed.

As well as proving a bitter disappointment for Rea, who had pushed Laverty from start-to-finish, it also proves detrimental to Laverty's title hopes as Kenan Sofuoglu is promoted to second place.

It means the Turk's advantage in the standings grows to 13 points and means he can still finish second behind Laverty in the final two races and win the title.

Broc Parkes is also promoted to third on his return to Supersport competition with Kawasaki.

Dani Pedrosa took his fourth victory of the season, and first ever back-to-back race wins, with a lights-to-flag triumph at Misano on Sunday.

But there were no celebrations as the news that Shoya Tomizawa had lost his life in the earlier Moto2 event was announced immediately after the finish of the MotoGP race.

Podiums flags were flown at half mast and there was no spraying of champagne as a mark of respect to the young Japanese, who won the first ever 600cc grand prix at Qatar this year.

Pedrosa had converted pole into the race lead at turn one and was one-second clear by lap three of 28.

World championship leader Jorge Lorenzo dropped from second to third at the start, but re-passed Ducati's Casey Stoner later in the opening lap and remaining in second for the rest of the race.

Pedrosa's lead over Lorenzo topped five seconds through the middle stages before he backed off to a 1.900sec victory at the chequered flag.

Lorenzo's title lead over Pedrosa has now been reduced from 68 to 63 points with six rounds to go.

After the race, Pedrosa spoke of his deep sadness at the loss of Tomizawa, whose death comes just one week after Peter Lenz was killed in a support race at Indianapolis.

The fight for third was closer than the lead, with local legend Valentino Rossi - who overtook Stoner on lap eleven - facing an assault from countryman Andrea Dovizioso with ten laps to go.

Pedrosa's team-mate remained glued to the #46 until the penultimate lap, when Rossi built a one-second lead over the Honda rider - enough to prevent a last lap lunge.

Stoner's pace dropped off markedly in the second half of the race and the Ducati rider took the flag twelve seconds behind Dovizioso, but almost ten ahead of top satellite rider Ben Spies.

The Texan, second at Indianapolis last weekend, was only tenth at the end of lap one, but moved through the field to claim sixth from Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team-mate Colin Edwards just before the midway mark.

Alvaro Bautista progressed all the way from 16th on the grid to eighth, three seconds behind Edwards, with Hector Barbera getting the better of Marco Melandri for ninth in the closing stages.

Randy de Puniet had been forced wide by a Barbera pass earlier in the race and finished in 13th place, ahead of only Melandri's San Carlo Honda Gresini team-mate Marco Simoncelli, who suffered a mishap while running sixth early in the race and finished last.

Loris Capirossi's 200th premier-class start ended at the first chicane when he was hit by Nicky Hayden, bringing them both down.

A furious Capirossi was out on the spot, while Hayden (taken out by Alex de Angelis at the same point last year) re-joined, pitted for repairs, and eventually retired as well.

Round 13 of the championship will be held at the new Aragon circuit, in Spain, on September 19.

Moto2: Huge accident overshadows Elias Misano win

Toni Elias has increased his Moto2 title lead to a mighty 83 points after his sixth victory of the season at Misano on Sunday, in a race overshadowed by a huge accident involving Shoya Tomizawa, Scott Redding and Alex de Angelis.

Fourth place Tomizawa, winner of the first ever Moto2 event at Qatar, spun off the back off his Technomag-CIP Suter after running wide coming onto the fast back straight. The Japanese was then hit flat out by both Redding and de Angelis, who were following closely behind and had no time to react.

Bikes and bodies were thrown in all directions by the 130mph plus accident, with de Angelis - making his Moto2 return with JiR - amazingly able to walk away, while Redding and an apparently unconscious Tomizawa were quickly scooped up and carried away on a stretcher.

The race was not stopped.

Tomizawa has been transported from the medical centre to a local hospital with Redding expected to follow soon.

UPDATE: Tragically, Tomizawa died of his injuries in hospital.

Elias, meanwhile, had been third on lap one and took the lead for the first on lap six of 26.

After the Tomizawa accident blew apart the lead group, Elias and his Gresini Moriwaki built a safe lead of several seconds over Aspar Suter's Julian Simon, the rider Elias also beat last Sunday at Indianapolis.

Simone Corsi looked set to claim his third podium of the year for JiR, in his and the team's home event, but his pace plummeted in the closing stages and he was overtaken by Thomas Luthi, who came form outside the top ten to claim his first rostrum since round seven in Catalunya.

Andrea Iannone, who began the seventh second in the points, was given a jump start penalty while leading on lap two - then retired on the penalty lap with technical problems having worked his way from the back of the field to 15th.

As a result, Simon is now second in the championship behind Elias. Luthi is third with Iannone dropping to fourth.

Former JiR rider Mattia Pasini fell from eighth place on lap nine of the race on his Moto2 comeback with Italtrans Suter.

Race results - Misano:

125: Marquez claims mature Misano win
Marc Marquez kept his head to claim his sixth win of the season at Misano on Sunday - and regained some breathing room at the top of the 125cc World Championship standings.

The three title contenders - Marquez, Nico Terol and Pol Espargaro - were nose-to-tail up front throughout the middle stages, but Espargaro couldn't maintain the pace and dropped back into the clutches of the leading trio's team-mates Vasquez (Tuenti), Cortese (Ajo) and Smith (Aspar).

Terol then waved Marquez into the lead - a mistake he had made earlier in the year - and was once again made to regret the tactic as the Red Bull Ajo Derbi rider punched out a series of fastest laps to drag a one-second lead over the Aspar Aprilia rider with four laps to go.

Marquez went on to win by 2.185sec over Terol, with Vasquez claiming the final podium position after just holding off pole sitter Smith and Cortese - while Espargaro sunk to the back of the pack in sixth.

Marquez, Terol and Espargaro began the race covered by just five points at the top of the standings.

They now head for the new Aragon event on September 19 with Marquez nine points clear of Terol and 20 in front of Espargaro.

Race results - Misano:

1. Marquez (Derbi) 23 laps

Had been having a great time at at Donington last Wednesday (1st Sept) until the first session after lunch, when I got completely wiped out by another rider who lost it under braking into the Goddards Chicane before the start / finish straight.
He clattered into the left rear quarter of my bike, throwing me off to the right where I landed pretty well the entire width of the track away from the point of impact.

All I remember was getting hit & then finding myself on my back at the right hand edge of the track. I tried to shuffle all the way off the track for safety, but as soon as I moved the pain was too much. The rider who caused the accident is in far worse shape. He went the the Queens Hospital in Nottingham where they have a specialist head trauma team. I'm trying to find out via No Limits if he's OK.

I went to Derby & apart from a badly smashed leg, escaped unscathed. I'll be "non-weight bearing" for at least 6 weeks.

Damage to my bike is thankfully superficial and my leathers, gloves, boots & helmet appear to be OK for future use. I'll get the Aria X-rayed, but I'm after some black plastics for a 750K8, so if anyone has some, please let me know.

So the plan was to get up at 0430 and leave by 0530 to get to the track in good time 0730.
Realised my headlight was'nt working as i had managed to damage the switch gear.......No biggie i thought....will wait till it gets light at should get there for 0830 latest, which is what time the briefing starts.
Went to start the bike, she would.nt start......Normal i thought, have a battery issue anyway so i'll bump start it, usually works.....not today.
After several attemps realised i need a jump start. Leads in the car...wife has just left for work IN CAR
All the time, time is pushing on.
Phoned my brother as a last resort, to bring the leads and help me start it.
15mins later he arrives with lead...tried to start it......****ing no joy.
tried to think straight..what could it be.
Compression,spark or fuel......
No bloody fuel............top it up and she breaths.Oh joy!!!
On my way, knowing i am now an hour late.
So take the motorway and have to get off at junction 21 for Mallory.
Through painfull experiance i know that if my tacho needle is not working the battery is not getting charged.
Bollox.......needle is not working.......pulled over at junction 20.
Figured if i stop now will maybe able to sort the issue with battery still having some charge in it......WRONG
Battery has no juice
Luckily two fella's in a van pulled up into a layby.....asked for help.managed to get bike started and battery seemed to be charging....Cool
got near Mallory figured i'd pull up at sainsbury's to fill up......(MISTAKE)
HOORAY.......i'm at the track.
Missed a session but still have the rest of the day....reached at 0940.
So first time out a marshall says to follow him for 3 sighting laps then i'm on my way.
After 3rd lap start to stretch the old girls legs.......every time i open her up i can't go above 10k revs. thought it was just me.
Second sessoin feeling alot more confident but that hesitation is still there at 10k revs plus i have a warped right disc which makes the lever travel too far in.
So i'm riding with all kind of compromises but seemed to be doing well.
Third sessoin bike gets worse and won't go beyond 7k revs cursing.....thinking it has to have been dirty fuel....any ideas??????
Get black flagged as i was deemed a hazard to the other riders(guessing)
My first track day is OVER.
To top it all off the camera i mounted at the rear or bike facing forward so i could get an idea of my bp.......camera was mounted too close to my back.......so thats all you see,.
Gonna wait till Monday to see if i can get any pics of the day.
Really left a bitter sweet taste in my mouth........Shit happens i know...but did it ALL have to happen at once all in one day????????

I MEANT TRAVELING FROM DORSET!!

I imagine it prob best to come up the night before, does anyone else travel a long way for track days, do you van it or just ride up?

Wouldnt mind doing one soon, been looking at Mallory Park on Sunday the 12th of September for £109.

Prob have to stay up night before, any good B&Bs in the area.

First track day advice?

Bike is pretty noisy, is it worth taking standard can with me, acording the the track day check list above, i think i would def have to rent a van and take it up there.

If its as good as i think its gonna be i might end up keeping the 750 soley for trackdays.

Cheers
